This place where we live is magical. I knew it the first day I stepped foot on this property. And after living here for two years, I have now seen how every season has its own particular beauty. Summers bring us long days and early mornings, crickets singing us to sleep at night, hikes in the surrounding forest, endless blackberries and tomatoes, and harvesting our lavender. Fall brings us heart shaped fallen leaves, apple picking, and yellow, red and orange trees, and bright yellow vineyards. Winter brings rainy days, an occasional snowfall, fires in the fireplace, and spectacular sunrises. As I write this, we are deep into Spring, and the hill to our south looks like a Bob Ross painting, with the darker colors of evergreens mixed with the lighter greens of new leaves. The peonies and iris are blooming, the grapevines are budding and everywhere I look there is new life, new beginnings.
So I guess it’s appropriate that we plant the seeds for our next project at this time. We’ve turned in the permit paperwork and started the remodeling and designing process -- our goal of sharing this magical place by opening a small bed and breakfast in our upstairs loft is in the works. The loft is a large, light-filled room with a high ceiling and huge windows that bring the outside in. It’s a beautiful space already, but will be made even more beautiful through the efforts of local contactor LM Nodine, who is remodeling the bathroom, and the stunning interior design work of dear friend Roxanne Hughes Packham at Sunset and Magnolia Designs. Stay tuned and follow along in the progress!
